02/24/2007 - East Rutherford, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jason Kidd recorded a triple-double, scoring 22 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists, as the New Jersey Nets cruised past the Sacramento Kings, 109-96, at Continental Airlines Arena.
Vince Carter scored 26 points and had 11 rebounds for the Nets, who halted a three-game losing streak. Eddie House notched 20 points, while Marcus Williams added 19 for New Jersey.
Ron Artest scored a game-high 33 for the Kings, who have dropped five of their last six contests. John Salmons scored 16 off the bench and Ronnie Price contributed 15. Shareef Abdur-Rahim pulled down 10 rebounds in a losing effort.
Leading by 18 at the start of the fourth, the Nets held the Kings at arm's length throughout the quarter, until a 10-0 burst beginning with Artest's trey with 4:43 to go, and ending on Artest's pair from the line with 2:41 to play brought Sacramento within 98-90.
However, Mikki Moore's layup with 2:21 remaining put the Nets up by 10 and the Kings would not threaten for the rest of the night.
The Nets recorded the game's first six points, and led by as many as 10 in the first before a 5-0 Kings run brought them within 16-11. Bostjan Nachbar ended the opening 12 minutes by sinking a three at the buzzer for a 19-11 lead. Sacramento did not help its cause by opening the night just 2-for-14 from field.
New Jersey hit 16-of-24 from the floor in the second quarter and extended its lead to 57-39 at the break.
House's three-ball with 12 seconds remaining in the third gave the Nets an 86-68 advantage heading into the fourth, but not before the Kings cut into a 27-point deficit by outscoring their hosts 20-11 over the final 6:06 of the period.
Game Notes
Despite the loss, Sacramento has won four of the last six meetings...It was Kidd's sixth triple-double this season, and the 84th of his career...Kidd also eclipsed the Nets' all-time record for three-point shots taken with 687 on a 4-of-8 night from behind the line...It was the Kings' sixth straight game giving up 100 or more points, and the fourth consecutive game the Nets have eclipsed the century mark.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
