Dementieva edges Wozniacki in Luxembourg final

10/26/2008 - Luxembourg, Luxembourg (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Top-seeded Elena Dementieva came back after dropping the first set to beat fourth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the final of the $225,000 Luxembourg Championships.

The Olympic gold medalist Dementieva, who downed Romanian Sorana Cirstea, 6-2, 6-2, Saturday in a semifinal encounter, took home $35,000 as the champion of this event.

The 27-year-old Dementieva also defeated Wozniacki in the third round of the Beijing Olympics in their only other meeting. Dementieva captured her third title of 2008 and 11th of her career.

Dementieva had her serve broken six times but converted on 5-of-10 chances to break Wozniacki's serve.

The 18-year-old Wozniacki failed to win her fourth title. She earned $18,900 for her effort at the tournament.
