Chela advances to quarterfinals in rainy Brazil

A pair of Argentines also moved into the quarterfinals Friday, as Juan Monaco beat Thiago Alves, 6-2, 6-3; and Guillermo Canas got past Albert Portas, 6-4, 6-0 on the red clay at Costa do Sauipe Salvador.

Rain forced the postponement of the quarterfinals until Saturday. Top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain will play Potito Starace of Italy, while third seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain battles Brazil's Flavio Saretta. Second seed Agustin Calleri, the 2004 Costa do Sauipe runner-up to Gustavo Kuerten, battles Canas. Chela will play Monaco.

The 2007 Costa do Sauipe champion will claim $73,000.
